March EoLP Navigator Lunch and Learn: Leave Lightly with Rev. Jan Kraft

We are honored to welcome Rev. Janet Lee Kraft, creator of Leaving Lightly, as our upcoming Lunch & Learn presenter.

Rev. Kraft brings a rare and deeply meaningful perspective to end-of-life planning. Her work is rooted not only in professional expertise, but in lived experience, spiritual care, and decades of helping individuals and families navigate life’s most tender transitions. Her journey, from the legal field to interfaith ministry, funeral officiant work, and end-of-life guidance, has shaped her holistic and compassionate approach to preparation.

At the heart of her work is the Leaving Lightly program, a gentle, step-by-step course designed to help individuals thoughtfully prepare for the end of life. Rather than focusing solely on documents, the program walks participants through five essential areas of preparation, including organizing personal and financial information, preparing healthcare directives, establishing legal safeguards, planning for physical remains, and preserving memories and life stories. The course combines professional guidance, practical tools, and reflective exercises to make the process manageable, meaningful, and empowering.

What We’ll Explore During the Lunch & Learn

During this special Lunch & Learn, Rev. Kraft will introduce the Leaving Lightly program and share how its thoughtful structure can support both individuals and professionals working in end-of-life planning. Participants will gain insight into:

  • How the Leaving Lightly framework guides people through comprehensive preparation

  • Ways to help clients organize critical personal, medical, and legal information

  • How to approach conversations about physical remains and memorial wishes with clarity and compassion

  • The importance of preserving stories, memories, and personal legacy

  • How structured guidance can reduce stress and emotional burden for families

This session will offer both practical tools and a deeper understanding of how preparation can become a meaningful and even life-affirming process.

Planning as an Act of Love

Rev. Kraft’s work reminds us that end-of-life planning is not about focusing on death—it is about supporting life, relationships, and peace of mind. When individuals are given the tools and space to prepare thoughtfully, they are able to leave behind clarity instead of confusion, intention instead of uncertainty, and love instead of burden.

For End of Life Planning Navigators and anyone called to support others through this important work, the Leaving Lightly program offers a powerful and compassionate model.

We invite our community to join us for this meaningful conversation, one that will deepen our ability to serve others with presence, clarity, and care.
